DDEX Competing In National Truck Driving Championship 7/15/2009

Photo of Eric, Milwaukee Truck DriverThe 2009 National Truck Driving Championships (NTDC) will be held in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania from August 18-22. The NTDC competition has been held every year since 1937, when it was known as the National Truck Rodeo. To be eligible to compete in the competition, truck drivers must operate accident free. The competition is made up of truckers who won their state competitions in one of the eight trucking classes:

• Straight Truck
• Three-Axle Tractor-Semitrailer
• Four-Axle Tractor-Semitrailer
• Five-Axle Tractor-Semitrailer (Tank)
• Five-Axle Tractor-Semitrailer (Van)
• Five-Axle Tractor-Semitrailer (Flatbed)
• Five-Axle Tractor (Sleeper Cab) -Semitrailer (Van)
• Twin Trailers

Direct Drive Express is proud to have one of our drivers, Eric Strauss, competing in the Five-Axle Semitrailer (Tank) portion of the competition, which he qualified for by placing first in the Wisconsin Truck Driving Championships. During the National Truck Driving Championships, each driver will demonstrate their driving and inspection skills, as well as their trucking knowledge through a series of test: a written test, personal interview, pre-trip inspection, and finally the truck driving skills test.

The National Truck Driving Championships are a great way of promoting and rewarding safety and professionalism within the trucking industry. Many large companies like FedEx and WalMart put a great deal of effort and resources into getting their truck drivers prepared to do well in the Truck Driving Championships, so Direct Drive Express is very proud to have one of our own finishing ahead of the competition.
